SAFETY FLOORING RENEWAL

Following reports of deterioration to the flooring within an accessible wet room, Peninsula Auxiliary Ltd were instructed to carry out a full flooring replacement and associated remedial works to restore a safe, durable and watertight environment for residents.

The existing safety flooring had reached the end of its service life and required complete renewal. To facilitate the installation, the existing vinyl flooring, cove formers and associated materials were carefully removed and disposed of. Following uplift, the subfloor and perimeter details were inspected, with damaged areas prepared and repaired to provide a suitable base for the new flooring system.

Once the substrate had been prepared, a latex-based smoothing screed was applied throughout the area to create a level surface suitable for installation. Drying equipment was utilised where necessary to assist the curing process and ensure optimal adhesion of the new flooring system.

The wet room was then fitted with a new Altro Aquarius safety flooring system, specifically selected for its slip-resistant and waterproof properties. New cove formers were installed to create seamless floor-to-wall transitions, whilst a new Gradus WTS2 wet room transition strip was incorporated around the shower area to maintain the integrity of the waterproof system.

All flooring joints were heat welded to create a continuous watertight finish, and perimeter details around walls, boxing-in sections and door frames were sealed using colour-matched mastics. Following completion of the flooring installation, sanitaryware was reinstated and tested to ensure the room was fully operational.

Upon completion, the accessible wet room was left clean, safe and ready for use. The completed installation provided a fully welded, slip-resistant and durable flooring solution designed to withstand the demands of a high-use wet room environment whilst improving long-term reliability and ease of maintenance.
